The 3 courses being offered are:
1. Labour History
This
course is about you, the worker. It is about thousands and thousands of
men and women like yourself who worked their lives to build a future
for their kids.
It is also the story of past and present
struggles to build labour organizations that would help workers have
their say in their workplace, in their province, in their country.
It
is about looking at our past, understanding our present challenges and
asking ourselves where is our movement going in this present century.
The
present introduction to labour history will focus on your province,
talk about how unions were formed by sector and give an idea of their
growth and decline. Participants will also become familiar with
different legislations that impact workers and key struggles.
2. Steward Training level II: Representation Skills & Tools
This
second level course builds on the framework of steward skills
established in our Level 1 course. The course will focus on
representation issues:
• knowing your membership;
• working with your union executive, grievance preparation;
• problem solving, conflict resolution and representation skills.
3. Women's Economic Equality: Women Speaking Out
The
first part of this course will give an overview of women's economic
inequality in Canadian and PEl workforce. The second part will focus on
how to get our message to the public by working with the media. What
makes a good story? What are the do's and don'ts when dealing with the
