UPDATED June 25, 2009
National
Consumer Boycott Against Old Dutch Snack Foods Limited
-On Thursday, June 25, 2009, Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) President Ken Georgetti released the following update on the boycott:
"Further
to the initiating, on May 8, 2009, a National Consumer Boycott against
Old Dutch Snack Foods Ltd., please be advised that the boycott - which
originally excluded the province of Quebec - has now been revised to
exclude the province of New Brunswick. The United Steel Workers has a
bargaining unit in Quebec and the Canadian Auto Workers has a
bargaining unit in New Brunswick, both with collective agreements in
force."
-On Friday, May 8, 2009, the Canadian Labour Congress
(CLC) endorsed a National Consumer Boycott (excluding the
province of Quebec) against Old Dutch Snack Foods Ltd. The boycott is
at the request of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW)
and is in support of UFCW Local 401 in Calgary, Alberta. The 170
members of UFCW Local 401 have been locked out by the company since
March 29, 2009.
-The collective agreement for these members expired more than a year
ago. One of the main stumbling blocks in getting a new agreement is the
company's
refusal to require all employees in the bargaining unit to pay union
dues, which is a standard Provision in most collective agreements.
-The PEI Federation of Labour asks all Our affiliated locals and
members to show your support for the Brothers and Sisters of UFCW Local
401 by honouring the
boycott of all "Old Dutch
Products".
These Products include all "Old Dutch Products" and the following
private labels:
• Presidents Choice - Western Grocers
• No Name - Western Grocers
• Great Value - Wal-Mart
• Compliments Value - Sobeys
• Safeway Blue Bags - Safeway
• Co-op Krunchie - Co-op
• Cyclone - Overwaite
