The PEI Federation of Labour will continue to encourage affiliates to resist attacks on their benefits and sick leave and support affiliates who are fighting to maintain their benefits and sick leave.

The PEIFL will condemn the use of back to work legislation, assist the CUPW in their campaign to restore their right to free collective bargaining, work with affiliates to oppose the use of back to work legislation, and work with affiliates to oppose elected officials who vote in favour of back to work legislation.

The PEIFL will lobby the provincial government to change the Private Nursing Home Act to allow LPN’s to dispense medication.
Resolution #5 -

The PEIFL will calculate the Living wage for PEI in accordance with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Living Wage Campaign and lobby the provincial and federal governments to ensure a Living Wage for all Islanders through minimum wage legislation, CPP and EI legislation and government taxes, transfers and deductions.

Resolution #8 – Environment

The PEIFL will demand open and transparent public consultations on PEI to examine the environmental and other negative implications of developing “the Old Harry” gas/oil field in the ecologically sensitive Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Resolution #9 – Fracking

The PEIFL will ask that the Government of PEI declare an immediate moratorium on the process of hydraulic fracking on PEI.

The PEIFL will lobby the provincial government to pay the cost of interest arbitration for those locals that are essential services and do have the “Right to Strike”.

The PEIFL agrees to sign the People’s Postal Declaration calling on Canada Post to share the benefits of postal modernization by preserving and improving postal services and jobs.

The PEIFL will encourage federation affiliates to lobby provincial and territorial governments to include labour studies curriculum in high school, work with affiliates to ensure the curriculum includes rights at work, health and safety, employment standards and labour history; put together material that exists on labour education in high schools, colleges and universities and make it available to affiliates, labour councils and federations of labour.
