WHY WOULD I JOIN THE PEI FEDERATION OF LABOUR?

FOR STRENGTH

Joining the Federation of Labour is bringing together your union and other unions to increase the power of the whole labour movement on the Island. This solidarity can only benefit you and your members.

FOR A VOICE

Being part of the Federation will make you part of labour’s collective voice on issues of concern to workers in PEI and because of the number of members the Federation represents (currently between 6,000 and 7,000) we have access to Island politicians on both the Federal and Provincial level. This will allow your local the opportunity to get your message to where it needs to be and give politicians more incentive to listen to it.

FOR INVOLVEMENT

The Federation has organizes activities and actions that benefit the whole labour movement.  You or your members can participate on different committees, help organize activities (ex: National Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured on the job, Labour Day Picnic, etc.) or develop and organize actions decided by the Annual Convention or the Executive Council.

FOR EXCHANGING IDEAS AND STRATEGIES

Ideas and strategies are discussed by experienced workers at the Federation’s table.  You would be able to bring your experiences and exchange ideas and strategies with others.

FOR SOLIDARITY

Workers know that we have strength in solidarity. We need solidarity in the labour movement to build the kind of province we want and to work together for workers’ rights on a daily basis and most importantly when we are faced with workers struggles, like strikes.

For all these reasons, we are asking you to join with us to help make our labour movement a modern, efficient, vocal workers’ organization that is fighting not only for you but also for all workers on this Island.
